What do you get when you mix April Fool’s day with iDorks? Winning!

There isn’t much to set up with this one, just watch, point, and laugh. If only she were blonde.

Well there goes that argument

You think you’re safer using a Mac than you would be if you were using a PC? Here’s some food for though.

Well, at least our demise will be humorous

It’s kind of hard to take a Terminator staring you in the eyes while holding a gun to your face during the future robot uprising seriously… when he says things like this.

Has iTunes killed the music industry?

I’ve had this discussion many times with friends who are artists/musicians/producers in the biz (yes, people you’ve actually heard of), but what are your thoughts as a consumer, fan, enthusiast, iDork, Zunefanboy (all 2 of you)? Please be educated in your explanation for or against. Any artists/musicians/producers/etc.  who care to chime in… by all means please enlighten us with your experiences. PLEASE keep the discussion civil… this is for everyone to further educate themselves, not to start a flame war.

Some possible points of interest you can touch on:

- Royalties earned/paid to artists, labels, and internet services (iTunes, Rhapsody, etc) before and after iTunes

- Album advances

- Manufacturing employees (if you used to work for the retail, or manufacturing side of the biz before iTunes came into play).

- Album/singles sales.

- Youtube and other online media sites and how they have helped/hindered Album/Single sales.

- Ticket prices and touring stats before and after.

- Unsigned artists who make good money without iTunes and/or labels.

- The death of most Major labels.

- Marketing/promotion

- The death of the middle man (Management, business managers, label execs, lawyers, A&R).

- Word of mouth vs traditional promotion vs iTunes paid promotion… which works better for you (if you’re an artist).

- Giving away music for free (Youtube, Grooveshark, Last.fm, free mp3 downloads… not piracy) and does it help put butts in seats at concerts?

Again, we’re looking for actual experiences or educated thoughts on the matter. If you’re just some person looking to stir up trouble with another boring opinion we’ve all heard before… go discuss on Pitchfork media. If you have actual experience, or close friends/relatives in the biz and can educate us… we want your comments! Discuss.   -The Sour Apple

Here’s some responses from friends over on Facebook:

TW: “Pretty much- I used to be able to make a decent living playing, recording and selling my music until iTunes made it “passe” to buy CDs at gigs. It basically sucks now. There are other factors, of course, but it has hurt my business without a doubt. I used to be able to sell up to 17 of my C.D.s for $10 at good shows, now I’m lucky to sell 1.”

JH: “Get your music onto iTunes. The odds of me ever buying a CD again are next to 0. Hell, you could even offer to upload it to their phone at your show for cash. I know I would do that. But I have 0 interest in a CD. Remember, its a buisness. U have to get the product to the consumer in the format they want. Not the format that is easiest for you. I don’t like that Itunes is pretty much a monopoly ….but if u don’t like it, create a competing website man! U never know, it could happen. :)

Ziggy O: “My qualms with iTunes isn’t it’s destruction of the music business. It’s the fact that it just SUCKS to use the program on a laptop running windows 7 64-bit. It’s laggy. It freezes anytime I do anything, and apple doesn’t really care. :(
